I'm glad too, I've been reminiscing lately and it dawned on me how little I used to think for myself. Leaving was liking being born and getting a fresh new start.

Sorry to be so negative.....
by ctrwtf intoday, and just today i've decided to go over to the dark side.
be forewarned this is an intenesely negative thread.
maybe i had a bad day.

ctrwtf, you're right- that sums up a lot of what I felt when I was active. The arrogance that goes in hand with being part of the "in" group of future Armaggedon survivors was toxic.

Categories of Former Jehovah's Witnesses
by neverendingjourney ini was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

Why does it matter?
by tenyearsafter ini have been on this forum for a number of years now, and one thing that seems to be a persisting theme is the "battle" between atheists and believers.. what i have not understood is the extent to which the supporters of either side engage in showing their position to be the correct one...and in turn debunking and demeaning the opposing position, or in many cases, insulting the intelligence of the holder of opposing belief.
i guess the simple question is, why?
does it really matter, or cause harm to be a supporter of either side of the coin?

It doesn't matter at all, I think we should believe what we want and concentrate on ourselves and worry less about other people's beliefs. I'm agnostic but feel no desire to change anyone's mind about their belief system- it's not my place to do so.
Everyone should pursue real peace and acceptance, enough have suffered at the hands of religion.

The college newspaper article from 1989 that got me kicked, at last
by Suraj Khan inmany months ago, i shared the experience of my removal from jehovah's witnesses.
to quickly recap, i had faded from meetings as an unbaptized publisher starting at about age 14 and had later decided to attend college against the wishes of my family.
as i liked to write stories, i sought a job at the college newspaper and became a columnist.. i brought some of my newspapers home during the winter break of my sophomore year, the one time i visited my parents during college.

Nice writing, the fact you're now "unapproved" because of this just proves exactly what you wrote- religious bigotry.

What are the buzz words or trigger for JWs?
by UBM101 ini read steve hassan's book and he mentioned about buzz words or triggers that call out the cult personality of a victim of mind controlling cult.
when you were in, what triggered you?.

Sadly, fading is bad for my marriage
by stillin inwhile headship has always been a problem in my marriage, partly because i'm more of a team player and my wife has man issues, now that i'm clearly fading my wife feels that i have nothing of worth to say.. i resist the idea of divorce but this is not much of a marriage.
since she doesn't/ can't hold down a job alimony would be ridiculously expensive.
cheaper to keep her, as they say.. i get zero cooperation or even discussion for any adjustments i feel might be in order for us as we grow older: obabmacare?

I hate to say it but you have just this life to live and I would caution you from living it without happiness.

Hi wakingup, they were hounding me too a few weeks ago and I got to the point where I could only dodge so many calls. Finally I straight up let one of them know that although I appreciated his "concern" (C.O. is visiting soon I believe) that I had no desire nor need to speak to them about anything.
All seems quiet for now, really hope it stays that way. Be direct- but nice and they'll hopefully get a clue.

How I recently handled JWs at my door
by Christian guy inthe jws stopped by my house a couple weeks ago on a saturday morning.
i knew that with others most likely waiting for them out in the car they probably did not then have much time to engage in any serious conversation.
so i let them talk while i feigned interest in what they had to say.
